Wednesday 15th May
This morning we were up a bit late and not to breakfast until about 8.45 a.m. After breakfast we followed Stefania into Pescara as she had errands to do there. We had lunch at the apartment and then took off for Teramo for the afternoon. It is about an hours drive north from Pescara and is the capital city of the Province of the same name. It is also the administrative and economic center of the region of Abruzzo.
The weather is grey again although the rain held off for most of the drive there. When we arrived we parked off the main square and walked to the Duomo or Cathedral which is large and very impressive. It was started in 1158 and completed in 1176. It is built in the Romanesque-Gothic style and is dedicated to the assumption of the Virgin Mary and to Saint Berardo who is patron saint of the city. After visiting the Cathedral and in order to access a bathroom we had a gelato in a cafe on the square.
Soon, we received a phone call from Stefania telling us to come back for dinner at LFMD (La Fattoria di Maria Donata), although we had previously decided to stay out and have dinner out. There was no way to disobey!!
Then we walked through the streets of the town or city which were very largely deserted. The Archeological Museum, which is said to be worth seeing was closed so we were not able to see that. As it had started to rain lightly, we made our way back to the car and drove on way up the hill to the University and the view of the valley from there. There is a Roman theater in the city but we were not able to find it on this visit.
Then after refueling the car, we headed back towards Cugnoli along the Bologna/Bari autostrada and then, at Pescara to Rome/Pescara autostrada. By the time we approached Cugnoli, the rain had started to fall more heavily and when we were back in our room we lit a wood fire as the temperature had dropped and it felt quite cold.
